When to Start Treatment

"When should my child begin orthodontic treatment?"

As a general rule the optimal timing of orthodontic treatment for each child varies depending on maturation, orthodontic problems and growth potential. In order to ensure that your child receives the most effective care and achieves the best results, bring them in for an evaluation no later than age 7. It is not necessary to wait until all the permanent teeth have come in before the initial evaluation.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has published educational materials that explain the reasons for early evaluation. Call our office and we will be happy to mail you a brochure that explains this in greater detail or simply click below to visit the public information web pages of the AAO.
